Tutoring Plus Case Study
“Common Impact put together a great team from Fidelity and Keane that represents a combination of copy-writing, technical and web-development skills that would have been hard to find on our own!” – Ellen McLaughlin, Executive Director
Tutoring Plus has been forging relationships that inspire personal and academic growth since 1964. As they looked to deepen their impact, Tutoring Plus wanted to revamp their website with an updated design and communications strategy that could communicate a compelling story to prospective donors about the important outcomes of their work.
The team of employees from Fidelity and Keane are working together to implement the new website design and content, and training Tutoring Plus staff to make site updates on their own. With the updated website in place, Tutoring Plus will have the capacity to generate support for growth, which means they will educate and empower more low-income and at-risk children all across Cambridge.

State Street Corporation Case Study
“Nothing is more rewarding than knowing what you do for a living positively affects the lives of those within your community, the country, or even the world.” – Corporate Volunteer
With a talent shortage looming and turnover costs rising, engaging employees is a top priority. However, only 21% of employees are actually engaged (Towers Perrin, 2003).
State Street Corporation was seeking new approaches to employee engagement through its partnership with Common Impact. Since the collaboration began in 2003, Common Impact has worked with State Street to bring together 30 cross-departmental project teams engaging over 150 participants. Through their experiences working to deliver solutions to local nonprofits, State Street’s employees have been exposed to entirely new experiences, befriended new colleagues, and developed some of the skills they will need to advance in their day-to-day roles.

Fidelity Investments Case Study
“Common Impact gave me an opportunity to do something I wouldn’t normally be exposed to in my role. You made it really easy to take the leap from wanting to do something to actually getting involved.” –Common Impact Participant
Fidelity Investments was looking for a way to find meaningful leadership development for up-and-coming IT employees in a cost- and time-efficient manner. By pairing teams of Fidelity IT professionals with nonprofits in need of their services and giving one person the role of Team Lead, Common Impact is able to facilitate “soft skills” development in all team members and give Team Leaders full “cradle-to-grave” project management experience. As a result, team members report gaining confidence and management skills, and Fidelity supervisors view the applied training as extremely effective. Common Impact has now completed over 25 team projects pairing Fidelity Investments employees to local nonprofit organizations.
