State Street on Skills-Based Volunteering Panel at Points of Light Conference
Cambridge, Mass. -- May 27, 2008 -- Common Impact, a nonprofit organization that connects skilled volunteers from leading companies to high-potential nonprofits, announced today that CEO and Co-Founder Theresa Ellis will moderate a panel discussion about corporate skills-based volunteering at the Points of Light National Conference on Volunteerism and Service taking place June 1-3, 2008, in Atlanta.
The panel, which includes senior executives from major companies including Deloitte, Genworth Financial, KPMG and State Street, will address the hows and whys of the skills-based volunteering model. Specifically, Ellis will lead a discussion of how to create an effective skills-based volunteering program, and why the approach is essential to generating a double-bottom line return on social capital investments.
"The biggest challenge facing so many non-profits is not just where to find funding but how to create sustainable growth," said Common Impact CEO and Co-Founder Theresa Ellis. "Having matched corporate volunteers to more than 100 nonprofits in need of help on IT, HR, marketing and other operational projects, we know that addressing these back-office issues is critical to helping non-profits succeed. I am pleased to have the opportunity to foster dialogue that will help us continue to build strong communities through corporate-non-profit alliances."
Common Impact matches corporate employee-volunteers with organizations in need of project management support. The organization's in-house team of consultants, who are expert in functional areas including human resources, marketing, information technology and finance, work alongside volunteers and non-profit staff to ensure each project kicks off strong, stays on track and fulfills its objectives. Common Impact has generated more than $6 million in net new resources for the social sector and a 7:1 social return on investment.
